Overview of the Health Data Hub and focus on data issues
Freshly created in 2020, the Health Data Hub aims to guarantee easy, unified, transparent and secure access to healthcare data in order to improve the quality of care and support for patients. More concretely, this means setting up a catalog of databases, accessible via a one-stop shop, as well as providing a secure, state-of-the-art space for processing and using this data. As a result, the HDH teams, and in particular the data team, are heavily involved in issues relating to the sharing and use of data, both in technical terms and in terms of ethics and respect for citizens' rights.
We'll start by outlining the HDH's general mission and the associated service offering, before presenting the data team and some of its missions in more detail. In particular, we'll be looking at the work carried out around the reception of catalog databases, the support of projects on the HDH platform, and some of the team's internal R&D projects.
Maxime Kestemont, who holds an engineering degree in applied mathematics from UCL (Belgium, 2007-2012), has worked for almost 10 years in the field of software engineering, and more specifically around data issues. In particular, he worked for 4 years at Criteo, a major tech player in France, where he was confronted with a very high volume of datatrie de données (>200 PB) ainsi que à un ensemble de problèmes liés au data engineering et à la gouvernance des données à large échelle. He recently joined the Health Data Hub as Chief Data Officer, taking charge of a team of around ten data engineers and data scientists.
