Bouncing back in uncertain times: Agile career planning

In times of crisis, uncertainty is such that it can lead us to adopt a wait-and-see attitude, to move forward without much conviction, or to operate in firefighter mode. Professionally, this can lead us to put promising projects on hold, to put the brakes on networking initiatives or job applications, as the chances of success in the short term seem to be shrinking. While all of this is perfectly explainable, these are missed opportunities, not only because of the context, but also, and even more importantly, because of our reaction to it. In fact, historically, change and crisis have also been sources of opportunity. Structures that were once almost insurmountable barriers break down, new needs emerge and many people need help. Presumably, if we know how to pay attention to the signals, somewhere there's room to contribute even more. As usual, it's always easier said than done. Of course, there's the lack of familiarity with this kind of situation - thank goodness we're not in crisis every day! -But with the right direction, antennae, a bit of structure and a good dose of agility, as our Anglo-Saxon friends say: "You can rise to the challenge". Just because everything is moving or stagnating doesn't mean you have to put your career at half-mast. Quite the contrary, in fact.
