ENSAE/EY Hackathon

Machine Learning

ENSAE 's fourth hackathon is gearing up to open its doors from Friday November 16 to Saturday November 17, 2018. Still focusing on Machine Learning, it will feature two challenges collected by the Latitudes association - Latitudes encourages and supports the use of technologies in the service of the general intérêt général, notably through its "Tech for Good Explorers" and "Tech for Good Enthusiasts" programs. It will take place at Numa, and like last year, is sponsored by EY.

The first challenge, focusing on deep learning, will look at damage recognition in images linked to floods or earthquakes. This challenge is proposed by BRGM, the French national geological survey, which is involved in the study and management of natural hazards. The second challenge is being prepared by Microdon , an ESUS-accredited and B-Corp-certified start-up that offers companies concerned about their social responsibility innovative solutions to facilitate their commitment to corporate social responsibility. He will be tackling a time series prediction problem not so far removed from one of the subjects of the first hackathon organized in 2015. This year's hackathon is innovating to facilitate the handover between participants and associations. Model predictions will be accessible via a REST API, to make it easier for project leaders to appropriate the students' work.

90 students took part in the hackathon last year, 70 the year before. I can confirm that some students did the first three hackathons and others recited Shakespeare. Who sleeps at 4am? To be honest, not many. The low point is between 5 and 7. Sometimes there are even loud cries of joy, as finding a result at these late hours is a challenge. The 8 a.m. coffee is eagerly awaited, especially by the few mentors vying for the title of most valiant mentor. You'll probably need less than an hour's sleep to have any hope of winning.

And finally, by the time I write these words, over 90 students have registered...
